Jorge Giron About me!!!

Born and raised in Guatemala, Guatemala; music and dance have been part of my life since I was a little child. My family's most sacred tradition was to turn on the radio FIRST THING IN THE MORNING, even before having breakfast! I embraced this as a child and still to date perform the same routine in my own house.

In all honesty if I can hold somebody responsible for my passion for music and dance it would have to be my grand mother. My family lived at grant ma's house during my childhood and I remember perfectly how she used to dance and sing at the same time she would cook or clean the house. She just loved to listen to all kinds of music, from the Caribbean and Latin American rhythms sung in Spanish to the Rock, Pop and Swing in English, she would sing and dance to pretty much all the music that was popular at that time; and there I was dancing and singing along with her, loving to see her move with such joy… And she was pretty good at it too! She even won several 1st place prizes in amateur dance competitions in Guatemala.

With no doubt grant ma' was my first and greatest teacher because without purposely doing so she thought me to love the music and to dance with my heart and soul not with my head... thanks Grant' Ma!

My official debut in a stage was at age 5, in 1981, when supported by my aunt I auditioned, joined and performed with a children band, lip singing and dancing; it would be my first encounter with the nerves and adrenaline of performing in front of audience; after the initial five seconds shock I fall in love with it. Then, through my childhood and youth I went on dancing in the streets with friends, it started as the thing to do in our spare time and it soon became a formal hobby; we would dance everything from the very popular at the time Break-Dance to Merengue and Salsa; we got so formal about it that we participated in all kinds of competitions and performances (see listings below).

The rest is pretty much history. I came to the United States in 1998 and have had the blessing to continue doing in this country what I love the most: dancing (see listings of performances below). This includes the great opportunity to teach the Houston community what dancing with Sabor Latino is all about.

I can sincerely and happily say that I've made of dancing not just a profession but a lifestyle...

Que viva la Salsa, the Caribbean music and all rhythms with Afro- Latin Roots!!!!!

Rosa Galeana About me!!!

Some old saying states that in life, among your steps towards happiness you should "dance like nobody is watching"... That in a nut-shell describes how I feel about dancing.

Born and raised in Mexico, as a kid I got some basic instruction in ballet, tap and jazz dance. As opposed to my partner's family mine was all about studying and being good at school. Even more as my family was on the conservative side I really never got a chance to enjoy dancing as a social thing (it was not really approved)... However, my inner dancer that was well hidden in every muscle of my body would come out in any family reunion / party and go crazy with the music, any type of music since at the time I had no exposure to the contagious Latin/ Caribbean beats (believe it or not, with the exception of few cities, those wonderful beats are not part of the Mexican culture). But it was very limited...

Then time and destiny gave me my big chance... when I came to Houston in 2000, knowing nobody in this city decided it was time to make some friends and what a better way than dancing, so got the yellow pages and joined "the cheapest" Salsa class in town (right out of college not much money), a fiasco as far as learning how to salsa but it did turn out to be a great way to meet people... All and all that was enough to get me hooked up to those popular Latin beats: Salsa, Merengue, Bachata... SO MUCH FUN! Next thing you know I am buying music in the store, going to the clubs, taking lessons again (this time I was lucky to land with a teacher that had the true "Sabor Latino") and joined a Salsa Dance Company.

That's when Jorge and some of my best friends come into my life... things happen, the Dance Company dissolves but the friends and the passion for Salsa dancing still there... and that is exactly how it remains now a days. I accomplished my goal, I have a wonderful group of friends including my partner that make Houston home and that get together with any excuse just to dance and have a good time; every important and even not so important occasion is celebrated to the rhythms of Salsa and other Latin beats… And guess what? I even landed a "part-time" job as Always Salsa's assistant in the instruction of Salsa. Pretty good deal!

For those that are wondering, things are still OK with my family as I manage to balance my "dancing" life with my professional life as an Auditor… how said you have to be boring to be an Accountant?

But the best part is that the same feeling I had growing up every time I would listen to some contagious up-beat song is still in my blood and just like back then when I had no instruction, today I still dance like nobody is watching and HAVE A BLAST while doing so!
